Emma Howlett (b.1997) is a British-Irish theatre director and writer from Bath, now based in London, staging new work and reinventing classics across the UK and in Europe. She is interested in the relationship between movement and text, building collaborative ensembles and staging what is fascinating and compulsive to watch.
As Artistic Director of award-winning company TheatreGoose, Emma writes, directs, and produces an expanding repertoire of critically acclaimed work including Her Green Hell and Sisters Three at theatres such as Summerhall, Theatre Royal Plymouth, and Theatre Royal Bath. The company's third show, shortly to be announced, will debut as part of Summerhall's Festival Programme 2025.
Emma made her European directorial debut with a new production of George Brant's Grounded at The Bridge Theatre, Brussels, in 2023 and over the past four years, has regularly assisted and associate directed for directors such as Polly Findlay, Stephen Unwin, and Lindsay Posner on productions that toured the UK and transferred to the West End.
She began directing whilst studying Ancient and Modern History at the University of Oxford at theatres such as the Oxford Playhouse, and at the ADC Theatre, Cambridge, when researching Greek tragedy for her MPhil at the University of Cambridge.
