


Giulia Ferrando
Emma Howlett (b.1997) is a British-Irish theatre director and writer from Bath, now based in London, staging new work and reinventing classics across the UK and in Europe. She is interested in the relationship between movement and text, the potency of ensemble companies, and design-led process.
As Artistic Director of award-winning company theatregoose, Emma writes, directs, and produces an expanding repertoire of critically acclaimed work including Aether (2025), Sisters Three (2024), and Her Green Hell (2023). She was named one of The Stage's Fringe Five for this work in August 2025.
Emma made her European directorial debut with a revival of George Brant's Grounded at The Bridge Theatre, Brussels, in 2023. She has also assisted and associate directed for directors such as Polly Findlay, Stephen Unwin, and Lindsay Posner on productions that toured the UK and transferred to the West End.
She trained on the National Theatre Studio Directors Course (2025) and on the Royal Court Writers' Group (2025).
Emma began directing at theatres such as the Oxford Playhouse and the ADC Theatre, Cambridge, whilst studying for her BA in Ancient and Modern History at the University of Oxford, and later researching Greek tragedy for her MPhil at the University of Cambridge.
